Celebrating the Transformative Impact of the Social Hackathon at IGARSS 2024

CONVIN proudly announces its Silver Award victory in the Community Engagement & Awareness category at the prestigious Event Awards 2025. The accolade recognises the groundbreaking and impactful Social Hackathon, titled ‘The Odyssey of Water’, organised during the IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS 2024) as a CSR activity, under the presidency of Dr H. Kontoes and Professor Vito Pascazio. This award highlights CONVIN’s commitment to organising international scientific conferences that not only advance scientific knowledge but also address pressing societal and environmental challenges.

‘The Odyssey of Water’ – A Groundbreaking Social Hackathon
The Social Hackathon, aligned with the conference’s central theme (sustainability and resilience), aimed to raise awareness about water scarcity, showcasing how a highly scientific conference can effectively engage with critical social issues like sustainable water management.

This Social Hackathon engaged over 1,000 volunteers – more than 300 scientists from 38 countries and 750 Greek middle school students cooperated in a creative mission to address the critical issue of proper water resource management. Through advanced animation techniques, participants produced two impactful animation spots:

  • The first aimed at raising awareness about water sustainability.
  • The second, delivered practical solutions for everyday water conservation.

These videos will be broadcast both in Greece and abroad, amplifying the message of sustainability far beyond the symposium. ‘The Odyssey of Water’ was conceptualised and implemented by AdMore.

A Commitment to Sustainability and Collaboration
CONVIN’s approach reflects a deep commitment to sustainability and innovation. From fostering collaborations among global scientists to involving youth in environmental advocacy, the Social Hackathon demonstrated how scientific congresses can drive societal progress. This CSR initiative exemplifies the ‘Acting for Sustainability and Resilience’ theme of IGARSS 2024 and serves as a model for future events.

CONVIN’s Recognition and Vision
‘Winning this award underscores CONVIN’s mission to ensure that every congress we organise not only facilitates knowledge exchange but also creates a lasting positive impact on society, the environment and the economy,’ stated Antonia Alexandrou, Managing Director. CONVIN continues to push boundaries by incorporating innovative elements that address pressing global challenges. This award is a testament to our role in shaping the future of congresses and inspiring collective action for a sustainable planet.
